No Fear

Updated: Jul 5, 2021

Loved:

I loved finding out the book I’m reading is now a series. “Little Fires Everywhere” by Celeste Ng is on Amazon Prime starring Reese Witherspoon. I’m only up to Chapter 6 but now I’m more determined to finish it before watching the first episode. Only readers understand the thrill of reading the book first BEFORE watching the movie! Then I see if the characters match the images in my head.

Learned:

“Imagine what you would do, if you knew you couldn’t fail.”

It was a bumper sticker on my car for so long the edges curled and it fell off in bits. I hadn’t thought about it much until recently, when a writing colleague and mentor posted a Roald Dahl quote on social media that had a similar meaning. That is, if you want something, go at it, full speed, embrace it with both arms, hug it, love it, become passionate about it. Lukewarm is no good.

Based on that, I’ve submitted my manuscript to a few publishers this week. It’s nuts but my hands shake every time I hit that ‘submit’ button.

And so… I’m imagining the things I will do, without the fear of failure. No guts, no glory, right? Lesson learnt.
